Neonatal acute appendicitis, a diagnostic challenge. Case report.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Acute neonatal appendicitis is a rare surgical entity. For this reason, it is not usual to consider it as a diagnostic possibility against an acute abdomen, as it does not show specific clinical characteristics that guide it, and there is a delay in its suspicion and diagnosis. Early diagnosis gives a better opportunity to offer a treatment that improves mortality. Case report: In this review, we present the case of a perforated neonatal acute appendicitis, which presented signs of peritonitis. Conclusions: Given its low frequency and diagnostic difficulty, it shows high mortality. Therefore, it is essential to associate various clinical signs to confirm its diagnosis early and thus reduce its mortality.
