Kangaroo Position: Fundamental in premature infants and newborns with low birth weight

Abstract
The kangaroo position, also known as skin-to-skin contact, involves direct contact between a child and their parents or caregivers. This practice promotes heat conservation and prevents unnecessary energy loss in newborns (1).
The Kangaroo Family Program is built upon this position, specifically targeting families with premature and/or low birth weight babies. The program involves regular outpatient follow-ups provided by a multidisciplinary team, tailored to the needs of each patient and their family. Typically, these follow-ups continue until the child reaches 2 years of age (4).
Numerous observations comparing premature and low birth weight patients' experience in an incubator versus the kangaroo position have demonstrated that the latter method maintains physiological variables within normal ranges and effectively aids in the recovery of premature newborns. Additionally, the kangaroo position offers numerous other benefits to these infants (3,6).
