Spondylodiskitis in pediatrics

Abstract
Introduction:
Diskitis or spondylodiskitis is a rare entity in pediatrics that, in terms of pathophysiology and clinical manifestations, is widely controversial.
This is a case report of a 3-year-old patient, who presents progressive antalgic gait. She was diagnosed with spondylodiskitis by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). She underwent a comprehensive treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory therapy, achieving a satisfactory outcome.
Case presentation:
A 3 year old female, with 20 days of progressive antalgic gait associated with irritability, ventilatory and respiratory signs and symptoms and no relevant past history is presented. Following the clinical and radiological findings a diagnosis of spondylodiscitis was made and antibiotic therapy was started along with anti-inflammatory medications, additionally, we indicated rest during the initial evaluation period and physical rehabilitation afterward with good clinical outcome after which she was discharged after 45 days of treatment.
Conclusions:
Although the Spondylodiskitis is a rare condition and self-limited, it is important to keep it in mind in the differential diagnosis due to potential complications. MRI is the gold standard for early diagnosis. Comprehensive treatment includes initial rest in bed, anti-inflammatories, in some cases, antibiotic therapy and physical rehabilitation.
